With the rapid development of the motor industry, the application of DC gear motors is becoming increasingly widespread. Many users are unfamiliar with the speed measurement methods for DC gear motors. The main purpose is to test the speed, torque, and performance requirements of the DC gear motor. Below is a brief introduction to the speed measurement methods and procedures.

1. Speed Measurement Method

The rotating shaft of the DC gear motor drives the magnets on the shaft to rotate, thereby continuously changing the magnitude of the magnetic field. The magnetic field change is converted into a pulse signal by a Hall circuit, amplified, and shaped to output a rectangular pulse signal. When the speed changes, the frequency of the output pulse changes, thus obtaining the speed of the DC gear motor.

2. Photoelectric Speed Measurement Method

When the DC motor drives the grid disk to rotate through the transmission part, the speed measuring photoelectric gate obtains a series of pulse signals. These pulse signals are matched by two timers/counters, one for counting and one for timing. The number of pulses per unit time (m) is calculated, and after unit conversion, the speed of the DC gear motor can be calculated.

Speed Measurement Procedures:

(1) Forward and Reverse Rotation

Because the structure of a DC gear motor is very different from that of a DC motor. Therefore, changing the power supply cannot change the direction of rotation; only changing the relative relationship between the stator winding magnetomotive force and the rotor magnetic field can change the direction of rotation.

(2) Microcomputer Control

DC geared motors are manufactured and developed using digital control technology. Therefore, using a microcomputer for digital control of DC geared motors is the main control method.

(3) Speed Regulation

Speed regulation of DC geared motors can be achieved by changing the voltage. There are two common methods: one is to keep the conduction time of each phase constant. When each phase is turned on, speed regulation is achieved by changing the voltage amplitude added to the coil. The second is to keep the voltage amplitude constant and change the conduction time of each phase to achieve speed regulation.

Speed measurement of DC geared motors is used to check whether the product quality and performance requirements meet the standards. Gearbox manufacturers and purchasers can use speed measurement methods or systems for testing, operation, and use.
