Why a Planetary Gear Reducer Fails to Start During Idle Run

A planetary gear reducer failing to start during idle run is usually caused by power supply problems, mechanical failures, motor malfunctions, or control device failures.

1. Power Supply Problems

① Insufficient Power Supply: If the power supply voltage is lower than the rated value or fluctuates drastically, the reducer will lack sufficient power. For example, a sudden drop in mains voltage can directly affect starting capability.

② Circuit Faults: Open circuits, short circuits, or contactor damage (such as contact oxidation and adhesion) can all interrupt power transmission. Damaged insulation in old wiring is a typical cause.

2. Mechanical Faults

① Internal Seizure: Gear wear, bearing deformation, or insufficient lubrication can directly lead to a sudden increase in operating resistance. If gear teeth peel off, it may cause misalignment and jamming.

② Installation Misalignment: Inaccurate shaft alignment during installation will generate additional radial loads and exacerbate component friction. For example, if the coupling misalignment exceeds tolerance, starting resistance will increase significantly.

3. Motor Issues

① Motor Body Faults: Short circuits/open circuits in the windings, broken rotor bars, etc., will directly paralyze the driving capability. These faults are often accompanied by abnormal noise or overheating.

② Power Mismatch: When a low-power motor drives a large load, insufficient starting torque may cause stalling. This problem is prone to occur, for example, if the selected model does not leave a margin.

4. Control and Protection Device Issues

① Overload Protection False Trigger: Setting the value too low or the starting current too high (e.g., improper star-delta switching timing) will trigger the protection to cut off the power supply.

② Controller Malfunction: Incorrect parameter settings (e.g., excessively short acceleration time) or a damaged control module will both cause the starting signal to fail to transmit normally.
