The application range of brushless motors is very wide, especially suitable for occasions where the speed needs to be strictly controlled and extremely high speeds need to be achieved, such as aircraft models, precision instruments and meters. In contrast, carbon brush motors are more widely used in various power equipment, such as hair dryers, factory motors and household range hoods. Although series motors can also reach very high speeds, their service life is usually not as good as brushless motors due to the wear of carbon brushes.
In terms of service life, brushless motors can generally reach tens of thousands of hours, but this also depends on the type of bearings. The continuous working life of carbon brush motors is usually only a few hundred to more than a thousand hours. Once the carbon brushes are worn, they need to be replaced, otherwise the bearings may be damaged prematurely.
From the perspective of use effect, brushless motors usually use digital frequency conversion control, which has strong controllability and can be freely adjusted from a few revolutions per minute to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. The speed of carbon brush motors is usually kept constant, and speed regulation is relatively difficult. Although series motors can reach 20,000 rpm, their service life is short.
In terms of energy saving, brushless motors are controlled by frequency conversion technology, which can save more energy than series-excited motors, especially in products such as frequency conversion air conditioners and refrigerators.
In terms of future maintenance, carbon brush motors need to replace carbon brushes regularly, otherwise the motor may be damaged. Although brushless motors have a longer service life, usually more than ten times that of carbon brush motors, they need to be replaced as a whole once damaged, and daily maintenance work is less.
The noise mainly depends on the matching of bearings and internal components of the motor, and has nothing to do with whether it is a brushless motor.
For model brushless motors, in addition to common parameters such as size, weight, voltage range, no-load current and maximum current, KV value is a very important performance indicator. KV value is a key data to measure the performance characteristics of brushless motors.
