DC motors rotate through the interaction between the armature and permanent magnets or electromagnets. In a DC motor, the armature is placed in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet or electromagnet, and when electricity is applied to the armature, it is subjected to the action of the magnetic field and rotates.

The structure of a DC motor is mainly composed of the following parts:
Non-rotatable parts: including motor housing, end cover, brushes and other parts. Brushes, usually made of carbon material, are used to contact the armature, enabling the transfer of electrical energy.

Rotatable part: including armature, armature shaft and other parts. The armature is the core component of the motor and consists of many coils. When the armature is energized, it generates a magnetic field that interacts with the magnetic field of the electromagnet to create a rotational torque.

Magnetic field system: including electrodes, electrode gaps, magnetic poles and other parts. The magnetic field of a DC motor can be generated by permanent magnets or electromagnets. Permanent magnets are usually used for low-power motors, and electromagnets are usually used for high-power motors.

Support system: including bearings, brackets and other parts, used to support the motor rotor and the rotation of the rotor.

Transmission system: including the transmission device connecting the motor shaft and the load, used to transmit the torque output by the motor.

The structure of a DC motor is relatively simple, usually consisting of several parts such as a non-rotatable part, a rotatable part, a magnetic field system, a support system and a transmission system. Among them, the armature is the core component of the motor, which is used to generate rotational torque. The magnetic field can be generated by permanent magnets or electromagnets. Permanent magnets are usually used in low-power motors, and electromagnets are usually used in high-power motors.

The DC motor has the following characteristics:

1. Large torque: The torque of the DC motor is proportional to the armature current, so the output torque can be adjusted by controlling the armature current.

2. Wide speed range: The DC motor has a wide speed range, and the speed can be adjusted by changing the armature current and the magnetic flux of the electromagnet.

3. Convenient control: The speed and torque of the DC motor can be adjusted by controlling the armature current, the magnetic flux of the electromagnet, and changing the position between the armature and the magnetic poles.

4. High precision: The output torque of the DC motor can be precisely controlled, so it can be used in occasions that require precise control of the output torque.

5. Good reversibility: the DC motor can realize forward and reverse rotation, so it can be used in occasions where the direction of rotation needs to be changed.

6. Simple structure: The structure of the DC motor is relatively simple, and maintenance and repair are relatively easy.

7. High reliability: The operation of the DC motor is stable and reliable, and the failure rate is relatively low.

In short, DC motors have the characteristics of large torque, wide speed range, high precision, and good reversibility, so they are widely used in occasions that require speed regulation or precise torque control, such as machine tools, automated production lines, and electric vehicles.
