Micro motors developed rapidly in the 1980s. They are a new type of micro motor based on piezoelectric effect and ultrasonic vibration. It uses the characteristic that piezoelectric materials will deform when input voltage is applied, so that they can generate mechanical vibrations of ultrasonic frequency. Then, through the friction-driven mechanism design, ultrasonic motors can perform rotational motion or linear movement like electromagnetic motors. It breaks through the principle of electromagnetic motors and has the advantages of small size, large torque, precise structure, and fast response speed. The main application fields are as follows:

1. Aerospace field: Aerospace vehicles are often in harsh conditions such as high vacuum, extreme temperature, strong radiation, and ineffective lubrication, and have strict requirements on system weight. Ultrasonic motors are the best choice for drivers.

2. Optical machines: Ultrasonic motors are used as driving elements in the focusing systems of optical instruments such as cameras, video cameras, and microscopes, and can achieve ideal results. Contact USM has the characteristics of low speed and high torque, and can be directly driven without a reduction device in many applications. The most typical application is in the automatic focus lens of the camera. Compared with the traditional motor lens, it has the advantages of quietness, no noise, high positioning accuracy, short focusing time, no gear reduction, and simple structure.

3. Precision instruments and meters: The electromagnetic motor uses gearbox reduction to increase the torque. Due to the existence of gear clearance and return error, it is difficult to achieve high positioning accuracy. The micro motor can directly realize the drive, and has fast response and good control characteristics. It can be used for precision instruments and meters.

4. Robot joint drive: Using ultrasonic motors as the joint drive of the robot, the fixed part and the moving part of the joint can be integrated with the stator and rotor of the micro motor respectively, making the whole mechanism very compact.

5. Micro-drive in micro-mechanical technology: Micro motors are the core of micro-machines and an important symbol of the development level of micro-machines. In the manufacturing and development of micro-electromechanical systems, most of their motors are millimeter-level. The medical field is one of the most representative fields for the application of micro-mechanical technology. Ultrasonic motors have been used in surgical robots and surgical instruments.

6. Occasions where electromagnetic interference is very strong or electromagnetic interference is not allowed: Under the conditions of nuclear magnetic resonance and the operation of maglev trains, electromagnetic motors cannot work normally, but micro motors can do the job.

7. Application in industrial machine tools: Due to the high structural rigidity and positioning accuracy of ultrasonic motors, they can be used for tool drive and control devices and fixed-point transmission of workpieces. Such as the precision feed mechanism of machine tools, wear scheduling devices for tools, processing devices for micro-EDM machines, accurate positioning and clamping of workpieces, tightening devices and rapid adjustment of fixtures.
