Common causes of oil leaks in stepper motor gearboxes are as follows:

Improper maintenance procedures: During equipment maintenance, incomplete cleaning of contaminants on mating surfaces, improper selection of sealant, reversed installation of seals, or failure to replace seals in a timely manner can all cause oil leaks.

Inadequate structural design of the stepper motor gearbox can also cause oil leaks: For example, if the stepper motor gearbox is designed without a ventilation cover, it cannot achieve pressure equalization, causing the internal pressure to rise and resulting in oil leaks.

Excessive lubrication: During the operation of the stepper motor, the oil sump is vigorously agitated, and lubricating oil splashes throughout the machine. If too much lubricating oil is added, a large amount of lubricating oil accumulates at the shaft seals, mating surfaces, etc., leading to leaks.

Increased pressure in the oil tank: As the operating time increases, the temperature inside the gearbox gradually rises, resulting in increased pressure. Under this increased pressure, oil will leak from any area where the seal is not tight.

In addition to the points mentioned above, attention should also be paid to the oil seal grade, installation method, and ambient temperature.

Solutions:

When adding oil, be careful not to add too much.

Regularly inspect the equipment to prevent problems such as poor sealing.
