With planetary gear motor, cylindrical gears evenly distributed around the circumference move in a concentric circle between the inner and outer gears. The cyclic movement of the cylindrical gears is similar to the orbits of the planets in the solar system. Therefore, planetary gear motor are also called planetary reducers. The components of a planetary reducer are mainly divided into four parts. The outer housing with the internal teeth is called the inner ring gear. In most cases, the outer housing is fixed. The driven sun pinion is located in the center of the inner ring gear and is coaxial with the output shaft. Usually, the sun pinion is connected to a tensioning system for mechanical connection to the motor shaft. During operation, the planetary gears located on the planet carrier roll between the sun pinion and the inner ring gear. The planet carrier also forms the output shaft of the reducer.
