Small speed-regulating motors are also called reduction motors in life. The characteristics of reduction motors are high efficiency and reliability, long service life, easy maintenance, and wide application. Its stages can be divided into single-stage, two-stage and three-stage gear reduction motors, and the installation layout methods mainly include expansion type, coaxial type and shunt type.

1. In the expansion type of the two-stage cylindrical reduction motor, the gears are asymmetric relative to the support position. When the shaft is bent and torsionally deformed, the load is unevenly distributed in the tooth width. Therefore, the shaft should be designed with greater rigidity and the gears should be kept away from the input or output end.

2. Characteristics of the shunt type of the two-stage cylindrical reduction motor: The extended shaft position of the shunt type reduction motor can be extended from any side, which is convenient for the overall configuration of the machine. The gears of the shunt stage are all made of helical teeth, one side is right-handed and the other side is left-handed to offset the axial force. One of the shafts should be able to move slightly axially to avoid the gear being stuck.

3. Characteristics of the coaxial reduction motor: The radial size is compact, but the axial size is large. Since the intermediate shaft is large, the shaft is more deflected when loaded, so the load concentration along the tooth width is more serious.

At the same time, since the centers of the two-stage gears must be consistent, the load capacity of the high-speed gear is difficult to fully utilize, and the bearing lubrication in the middle part of the reduction gear is also difficult. The input and output ends of the reduction motor are located at both ends of the same axis, which limits the overall configuration of the transmission device.

From the installation perspective, it is divided into vertical and horizontal types, which mainly depends on the use environment.
