The material of the reducer main shaft is mainly carbon steel (such as 45 steel) or alloy steel (such as 40Cr). It bears both bending moment and torque during operation, and needs to have high strength and good toughness. Its working capacity generally depends on strength and stiffness, and at high speeds, it also depends on vibration stability.

The selection of main shaft and shaft materials and heat treatment must consider the force size, bearing type and main shaft shape and possible heat treatment defects. The shaft rotates in the rolling bearing, and the journal does not need a particularly high hardness. 45 steel and 45Cr steel can be used. The hardness after the final heat treatment is 220~250HB.
